Strength vs Technique

There is often an assumption that strong people will be able to drive a golf ball a long distance, but this is definetly not always true. The technique is hitting a ball is much more important and effective.

A small scrawny person can easily out-drive a muscular one. If you can hit a ball in the right place everytime, then your driving will not be effected by your physical strength very much at all. It is merely the speed of the swing rather than the power put behind it.

So, do not worry about strength in the game of golf – technique always beats it.

Mentally Challenged

I was trying to improve my game yesterday by asking the proffesionals over at iseekgolf.com to help me to keep my game consistant. They were very helpful, and by the end of the discussion it became evident that my problems were mental.

You see, I can never have a single good hole: if I have a great drive, then my putter stinks, but if I have a shocking drive, then I can sink it easily. Apparently the reason for this is that if I have a good drive I automatically think that I’ll putt badly.

Iseekgolfguru gave me some very interesting advice – advice I would like to share with you:

Set yourself some simple goals to practice towards. Like improve my putting, chipping, then pitching then longer strokes.

Results will show up evenutally on the score card but take heart in what progress you do make. There is nothing like feeling that you can move further up the power chain having really nailed the previous level.

It is all about practice. Perfecting the basics so that you can slowly but surely improve. Thanks for the tips!

When a Putter is no longer just a Putter

In the past few days I have read on both the BogeyLounge and on GolfPunk Online, that new technology in putters is making the company Pinfire Golf a world leader in designing and manufactureing the worlds “finest putters.”

How can a single putter be so much better than another. All a putter is designed to do is to help a golfer be able to put the ball into the hole – and the hole is at a fairly close distance at that.

I mean, a piece of metal could do as good a job (just not as consistantly). I certainly understand about balance in the head of a club, and a smooth face, but putters with these features have been constructed for decades. How can ‘new technology in putters’ be so much different from the old ones.

If these new Pinfire Putters can take shots off my scorecard every game, then they are certainly worth while, but my question to you is: will they do it?
